Looking at Rihanna's other music videos, I have noticed a common theme of revealing clothing and noticeable make up worn by those who feature. The costume and make up may not be replicated in my music video, as it will not be appropriate for my actor. Although the clothing is very revealing in Rihanna's music videos, she uses clothing that people would wear everyday. For example in one of her videos 'Kiss it better' she is wearing only an over sized blazer with heels. Comparing the older music videos to some of her more recent, much of the clothing is very dark or pure black, whereas other pieces of clothing can be considered more girly - often pink. Even though she has two different sides to the costume (either dark or vibrant) showing versatility, it will be difficult for me to replicate a similar costume style with my actor as she will be walking around London in public areas. It will also be cold, so I will need to ensure my actor does not fall ill. The clothing I believe will be appropriate but also following a similar theme to Rihanna's music videos is a long, expensive-looking winter coat with jeans.
In terms of makeup, it depends on what Rihanna is wearing, and what type of music video is created to complement the track. For example, in her upbeat music videos she is wearing very heavy makeup or features bold lips; this is expected because the song is more cheery therefore it could represent parties or general happiness, meaning that she dresses up a bit more than usual. 'Rihanna- Work' is an example of this. On the other hand, if her lyrics are are dark or sad, she will usually wear natural-looking make up to appear exposed and raw; this can be seen in the 'California King Bed' and 'Stay' videos. As well as this, her make up changes depending on the clothing she wears.
The song that I have chosen is less upbeat than her other songs as well as it seems darker and more mysterious, meaning that my actress will likely wear less makeup while filming to depict a more natural, casual look.
