Initial ideas for album digipak

There are many reasons for why you need a digipak for example it helps promote the artist, helps the audience find out what genre the music is, as well as this it builds a fan base. The digipak needs to have synergy with the theme and the music, the digipak has to represent the lyrics and the theme of the music.

Most album covers have something similar to what the song is about ad therefore I feel like should incorporate that into my idea. For example in 'Anti' by Rihanna, her songs sound distorted and eerie and this goes well with the album cover because the cover is blurry and fuzzy just like the sound of the album. For my album cover I thought of different ways that I could represent her moving on which is what the song is about.

Idea 1:

From here I thought about having a rip effect which has a black background and in the rip there was a sunset with doves and I felt like this represented freedom which she had at the end of the song. Therefore for the digipak cover I was thinking  about  her background and past which is dark and mysterious because she never tells the audience what happens exactly in the song. This could be represented by the black background on the cover however there is then a rip in that background which has a sunset including colours like yellow, pink, purple and orange which represents freedom as there are doves as well. Here is what it would roughly look like:

Peer feedback on idea 1:

I showed this to my peer feedback group and asked them what they thought of this particular album cover and some of them mentioned that there is too much going on if I do the sunset with the birds however they understand what it represents once they heard the song. Other people in my peer feedback group said how they liked the idea of a sunset with doves and they really liked the cover.  Looking over at what my group said I took their advice and changed it to be a bit simpler and easier to understand however I still wanted to incorporate the rip and some sort of mystery alongside the idea of freedom.

Idea 2:

The second idea is a white and a black background, I have taken on the advice of my peer group and changed it so it is much simpler than before but people will still be able to understand what it represents. This idea is shown in the picture below. I feel like this works well with the song because it shows her moving on from the darkness which was her relationship and into lightness which is represented by the white background. As mentioned before, I still wanted that mystery that is shown in her song to come through on the album cover which is why I decided to have an image of her eyes in the white background to represent a new person in a new light tearing through her dark  past.

Peer feedback on idea 2:

After the first draft I went back to my peer group and asked them which album cover they liked the most out of the two and 4 out of 7 people said they preferred the second idea which was a black background with a white tear in it which had just her eyes and eyebrows in the picture. The group said it was a lot more simpler which they liked, it creates mystery because you don't see the whole person you just see the eyes.
